atac

atac is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization in downtown Framingham, MA. Home to community-centered creative programs, artistic development, and work and volunteer opportunities, atac facilitates new possibilities for their community to access the transformative power of creativity. In different capacities, I worked at atac from the summer of 2022 to the fall of 2023 at the invitation of an old friend, Jannelle Codianni. Below’s a quick list of things I did while there.

Backend / Admin

  • Set up Google Workspace, Drive folder system, file and folder nomenclature

  • Created standard contract for all events

  • Created singular document for shared booking, production, and marketing info

  • Wrote SOPs for various platforms, style guides, etc

  • Implemented notes system for all-staff meetings

  • Developed training system for my replacement; offered robust passdown

Programming

About 4 months into my time as Marketing Manager, I noticed an issue—we didn’t have many events booked. So I took on programming responsibilities that spanned the 22-23 and 23-24 seasons, and booked around 40 nights of live entertainment. Jazz, folk, indie pop, all sorts of stuff. Examples include:

  • Community: Hot and Heavenly Cabaret; Wellseley High School Rock Band

  • Folk: 90s icon Jill Sobule, The Sea The Sea, Bug Hunter

  • Jazz: Danny Fox Trio; Vortex, an experimental jazz duo from Brooklyn

  • Booking Form: Created new, clean and easy form for outside proposals

Basic Marketing

  • Helped rewrite atac’s mission statement; various other pieces of copy

  • Oversaw social media; across the board # increases

  • Got the Mailing list to a 37% open rate

  • Oversaw all paid promotions; design work for venue ads

^ Design

  • Full build of website (all design, integrations, backend, layouts, etc)

  • Posters and web ads for internally produced events (repeating; alt. colorways, etc)

  • Design for some one-off events and touring acts

  • Weekly and special event mailers

  • Assets for fundraiser events (Annual Appeal, summer Circus)

  • Redrew Framingham Cultural Council logo for modern uses

^ Contract Helper / Group Show

Community organizers understand that legal language and processes are regularly used to systematically marginalize and exclude people from power. Apprehension around contracts, or even using one’s legal name, is 100% understandable! That said, a good contract represents agreement, not disagreement. So I put together atac’s Contract Helper — a guide to the actual contract the venue uses, plus a glossary of booking-world terms.
