My first job in NYC (2008) was Programs Coordinator for arts & music at 92YTriBeCA, the 92nd St. Y’s brief effort to open an arts space aimed at younger audiences. I was only there a short time as layoffs came after the Bernie Madoff scandal where I believe the 92Y had lost a lot of money. That and, I think my bosses thought the stuff I was bringing it was a bit too loud ^_^ While brief, it was a great entry to the city —getting to help open a new venue. I had bands like These Are Powers, Astronaut (a pre-0PN effort) and CFCF play and kept on good terms, returning a bit later w/ a Silver Apples show.
I organized the venue’s pre-opening party with Chairlift, Crystal Stilts and Violens. Here are some blurry photos of it:
I was also able to organize two exhibitions. First was Goddess, Mouse and Man (Oct 2008) –a comic-arts show featuring Lauren Weinstein, Tom Hart and Matthew Thurber:
Second was Invisible Somethings with works by Denise Kupferschmidt, Brian Willmont and Eric Shaw:
